WEAR YOUR BOOTS THIS SUMMER

It’s getting to the time of year where knees are back on show. Let’s rejoice, knees are pretty great. My usual response to this very welcome shift in the weather is to ditch my boots and don my Birks. Understandable, on a purely comfort and convenience basis. But fashion is not about comfort and convenience, it’s about looking incredible all the time, even if that means your ankles are dead and your knees are weak and your palms are sweaty. Except in this case it’s your feet not your palms, because this summer is all about embracing your boots.

Last year, inspired by the White Lotus’s Lucia and Mia and their mini dresses and docs, I began to notice more and more the boot wearers in summer. One of my friends who lives in Toulouse absolutely swears by the mini dress doc combo. It is a very good look. This year I decided to explore boots in the summer a bit more. Here are some other ways to style them …

1 COWBOY BOOTS

I don’t think I need to elaborate much here. Cowboy boots are an established summer shoe. Nothing screams boho festival vibes like a brown leather cowboy boot!

For a classic look, pair them with a long flowy skirt.

Alternatively, embrace the clashy contrast and wear them with tracksuit shorts.

Imagine this outfit with these boots: the perfect summer clash.

2 CLASSIC TIMBERLANDS AND MINI TUBE SKIRTS / MINI SHORTS

Timberlands will go with most things in the summer because their shade is so sandy. When you think of Timberlands I’m pretty sure you immediately think of sand dunes, which means beaches, which means - hello? - Summer. So of course, they can weasel their way into the summer outfits pretty seamlessly. My particular recommendations would be to wear them with a bodycon minidress/ skirt for a y2k look, with a light or dark wash denim jacket and denim shorts if you really want to slay the boots house down, or some cropped tracksuit bottoms for true 2024 vibes.

3 KNEE HIGH BOOTS AND MINI SHORTS

On a day where you NEED to be wearing your booty shorts but you’re not 100% sure if the weather is yet in its peak - keep warm with some knee high boots. It also is an eclectic proportion mix because the boots are big and the shorts are well.. not. To match the vibe I would say a mini top would be perfect, but I'm always a fan of eclectic proportions and a long top with mini shorts and knee high boots reminds me of Aria from pretty little liars. Who doesn’t want to be reminded of Lucy Hale’s iconic character?

Here are the boots:

Here are the outfit ideas:

4 WELLIES AND WIDE MIDI SKIRTS

You might own a pair of wellies. NEWSFLASH they’re now super cool. Gorpcore to the max if you will. Pair an awkwardly cut wide midi skirt with a pair of wellies to emulate the barrel shaped look that’s currently trending without appearing as though you just spent way too much money in a shop made for yuppies. As with barrel jeans, the beauty of this shape is that it matches any top so it is versatile. Wow. (But also imagine how great a SUPER cropped top would look).
